Focus on Energy Joins Community Center in Helping First-Time Home Buyers

Milwaukee, WI – Focus on Energy is partnering with United Community Center (UCC) to help some new homeowners in Milwaukee save energy and money.

The community center, which also goes by Centro de la Comunidad Unida, provides programs to Hispanics and other residents on Milwaukee’s near south side. On Thursday, November 1, UCC will offer free light bulbs to residents who work with the center’s first-time home buyer’s program.

Megalight is providing 1,600 bulbs and Focus on Energy is paying $12,000 to cover their cost.

In addition to saving on the up-front cost of the bulbs, residents will save on their electricity bills. The 1,600 bulbs, over their lifetime, will combine to save the homeowners an estimated $109,664.

By being in on energy efficiency, Centro de la Comunidad Unida and the homeowners are also helping Wisconsin. The bulbs will save a combined 51,200 kWh of electricity in the first year alone. That’s equal to 41,689 pounds of burned coal.
