PowerHouse to Feature Wisconsin Homebuilder

Press Release

11/14/2018

Madison, WI – PowerHouse is featuring FOCUS ON ENERGY® Trade Ally contractor, Tim O’Brien Homes, in an upcoming episode of the regional television program.

The segment, which will run on an undetermined date in the new year, will feature one of the homes Tim O’Brien built in the new Red Fox Crossing subdivision in New Berlin.

The builder bills the development as Wisconsin’s first Net Zero community. Each home built there is designed to produce enough power to offset its electricity use, and the development contains the only home in Wisconsin to gain the U.S. Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready designation.

“Zero-Energy homes are within reach of today’s consumers,” Tim O’Brien said. “ When viewing the purchase of a home from the perspective of the total cost (purchase price plus the cost for utilities and maintenance), we can show that, financially, the purchase of these homes truly makes sense! At Tim O’Brien Homes, we focus on continuous innovation with the goal of producing a Zero-Energy home at a competitive, value-based price for our consumers.”

Powerhouse TV co-host, Megan Turner, was in New Berlin Tuesday to interview Tim O’Brien and tour a Savannah Model home. The 2,400-square-foot home has a Home Energy Rating Score of 26, meaning it will use 26% of the energy of a similar-sized home built to code.

“It’s really exciting. We’re really thrilled that we have the opportunity,” said Ryan Hillgartner, Director of Marketing for Tim O’Brien Homes. “I think people will start to realize that although sometimes Wisconsin might seem like it’s a little bit behind, but we’re proud to be leading the charge with energy-efficient features for homebuilding. And we’re really not that far away from this sort of community being the standard.”

Tim O’Brien Homes is partnering with Neumann Properties and SunVest Solar to build 34 homes at Red Fox Crossing. The homebuilder will then make sure each home meets the requirements of Focus on Energy’s New Home Certification program. The homes will also be certified by ENERGY STAR® and EPA WaterSense®.

Since Tim O’Brien Homes started working with Focus on Energy in 2007, the company has certified nearly 1,200 homes through the New Home Certification program.

PowerHouse is produced by Alliant Energy, one of the 107 Wisconsin utilities that fund Focus on Energy programs. It airs in southern Wisconsin, eastern Iowa and part of southern Minnesota. Learn more at powerhousetv.com.
