Focus on Energy Will Save Wisconsinites $3.5 Billion

An independent, four-year (2019-2022) achievement report for the Focus on Energy program shows increased awareness and participation amongst Wisconsin businesses and residents, that continues to deliver significant and cost-effective energy savings.

The report found residents and businesses who participated in the past four years will save a combined $3.5 billion on their energy bills over the lifetime of their installed equipment incentivized by Focus on Energy. Every dollar invested by Focus on Energy creates a positive impact on Wisconsin's economy generating more than $4 for every $1 invested from 2019-2022.

“Time and again, Focus on Energy clearly demonstrates the tremendous value it brings to our state in immediate savings, but also in avoiding the costly construction of power plants and transmission lines,” said Public Service Commission of Wisconsin Chairperson Rebecca Cameron Valcq. “As more Wisconsinites implement energy efficiency upgrades, the economic impact shows that our investment in Focus on Energy is sound and will pay dividends into the future.”

Focus on Energy achievements from 2019-2022 include:

  • Wisconsin avoided generating 29.2 million tons of carbon dioxide – equivalent to taking six million cars off the road for one year.
  • Participants’ program satisfaction averaged between 9.3 and 9.5 out of 10.
  • More than 60% of Focus on Energy Trade Ally Contractors reported business growth.
  • Eighty-three percent of all Wisconsin residents are aware of Focus on Energy – a significant jump from 48% in the prior four-year reporting period.
  • Residential solar panel installation grew 155% over the quadrennium producing 1.8 billion kWh throughout their lifecycle - enough energy to power over 214,000 Wisconsin homes for one year.

“The data highlighted in Focus on Energy’s annual evaluations from the last Quadrennium demonstrates the positive economic impact energy efficiency and renewable resources can have for Wisconsin homes, businesses, schools, manufacturers, and farmers,” said Focus on Energy Managing Director Lisa Stefanik. “In 2022 specifically, Focus on Energy continued to not only deliver its program benefits to a diverse group of Wisconsin’s utility customers, but did so while maintaining historically high customer satisfaction scores.”

Cadmus prepared the Quadrennial Achievement Report as well as the 2022 Annual Evaluation. In the final year of the quadrennium, Focus on Energy helped businesses and residents save almost 8 billion lifecycle kilowatt hours and more than 250 million lifecycle therms which is enough energy saved to power more than 733,000 homes in Wisconsin for one year, and the program achieved an average customer satisfaction rating of 9.5 based on a 10-point scale.
