Grain dryers being replaced this harvest season may qualify for a Focus on Energy incentive.
“It makes sense to replace older, inefficient grain dryers with efficient models,” said Casey Langan, Focus on Energy spokesman. “An equipment upgrade cuts a farm’s operating costs and avoids excessive repair costs during the harvest season.”
Focus on Energy’s incentive for energy efficient grain dryers (powered by natural gas) is $8 per bushel/hour drying capacity. Propane heated grain dryers are not eligible.
Focus on Energy works with eligible Wisconsin residents and businesses to install cost effective energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. The statewide program is funded by 108 participating electric and natural gas utilities.
Wisconsin corn and soybean growers are encouraged to call 888.947.7828 to speak with an energy expert from Focus on Energy or visit www.focusonenergy.com/agribusiness for a complete list of available incentives.
“The process for a Focus on Energy incentive is very straight forward. Their website is easy to navigate, the application is simple and there is very little additional paperwork to obtaining these incentives,” said Nancy Kavazanjian, a Dodge County corn and soybean grower.
“I can’t imagine why every farmer in Wisconsin isn’t taking advantage of these energy saving programs and incentives offered by Focus on Energy,” she added.
To qualify, grain dryers must include energy efficiency features such as staged temperature, differential grain speed, grain heat recovery or a varied drying column width.
Incentive applications must be submitted within 60 days of equipment installation.
Focus on Energy is currently offering agricultural customers a bonus for installing more than one technology at the same time to existing buildings. The incentive bonus ranges from $400 to $600 and is capped at 50 percent of the original incentive.
Focus on Energy helps Wisconsin residents and businesses reduce energy waste, promotes in-state economic development, protects the environment and controls the state’s growing demand for electricity and natural gas.
